BIOPATH 5 Kepong Botanical Garden Wildlife Spotting

Updated: Jul 4

Kepong Botanical Garden, located at the foothills of Bukit Lagong and adjacent to the headquarters of FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia), is a haven for nature enthusiasts and wildlife spotters alike. Spanning over 92 hectares, the garden features a variety of microhabitats — from scattered groves of sparse trees to a large, tranquil lake on the western side. While the northern region of the park is densely forested, bird activity is generally more rewarding around the western perimeter, where isolated forest patches and open landscapes make spotting easier. Here, birdwatchers can expect to encounter species such as bulbuls, flowerpeckers, sunbirds, and occasionally leafbirds or woodpeckers. The garden’s blend of cultivated and semi-wild areas creates the perfect conditions for observing both common and elusive wildlife, making it a prime spot for documenting urban biodiversity.

I did several nature walks in Kepong Botanical Garden.
